Audi<\/strong> has apparently discontinued<\/strong> the A8<\/strong> grand luxury sedan. In its own home country Germany<\/strong>, one cannot order<\/strong> the A8 anymore. In fact the order books were closed<\/strong> in February 2026<\/strong>. That normally signals a change into the next-generation<\/strong> car. In this case however, it appears that Audi has no plans<\/strong> to replace the A8 with a new-generation model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audi\u2019s first-generation A8 \u2013 codenamed D5<\/strong> internally \u2013 came into being in 1994, with an aluminium monocoque <\/strong>which was called Audi Spaceframe<\/strong>. The reason for using aluminium was to minimise weight, especially since the car was going to also be available with quattro AWD<\/strong>, which adds  body weight. That was one of the innovations<\/strong> brought by the A8 range, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years the A8 has grown in stature, boldly<\/strong> taking on the likes of BMW 7 Series<\/strong> and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, as well as the Jaguar XJ in the luxury sedan<\/strong> segment. Derivatives<\/strong> such as the long wheel base L model<\/strong> as well as the S8 and W12 engine have cemented<\/strong> its place among its peers. Unfortunately the A8 just never flew<\/strong> as far as its difficult segment goes. The existing rivals proved too strong<\/strong> and sales have been struggling for over a decade now. The advent of the SUV, from internally too (Q7<\/strong> and Q8) did not help its cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
