Rumours<\/strong> coming out of Germany suggest that the next-generation Mercedes-AMG C 63<\/strong> will ditch<\/strong> the stupendous 4.0-litre twin turbo V8<\/strong> in favour of a 2.0-litre turbo<\/strong> with only half the number of cylinders. While this might be seen as a blow because the big V8 roars<\/strong> with a unique and impressive<\/strong> sound, the company will be lauded<\/strong> for its solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only is the 2.0-litre to replace the V8, but it will also work in tandem with a 48V<\/strong> battery system that will create a total output of over 400kW<\/strong>, which is where the current C 63 S is in power terms. Add to that will be the 4Matic<\/strong> all-wheel-drive (AWD<\/strong>) system, another first for the C 63. Essentially all this will make the car a mild hybrid<\/strong>, the only one in the segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We understand where Mercedes-AMG<\/strong> is going with this, given the European government pressures<\/strong> to electrify<\/strong> cars right now. We just wonder if there will be the same drama<\/strong> and similar aural theatre<\/strong> from the 4-pot<\/strong> that the V8 has been offering customers. At the same time, it is clear that the AWD<\/strong> system will aid in better handling<\/strong>, especially acceleration<\/strong> where key rivals<\/strong> have been killing the C 63.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
