Jim Farley<\/strong>, CEO of Ford<\/strong>, says the US government<\/strong> is doing the right thing<\/strong> by not allowing Chinese car manufacturers<\/strong> to operate in that country. Speaking on the Fox & Friends<\/strong> show on Fox News, Farley did not mince<\/strong> his words as he described the devastation<\/strong> that Chinese brands would do to the US automotive manufacturing industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe should not let them<\/strong> into our country\u201d, he said. \u201cManufacturing<\/strong> is the heart and soul of our country and for us to lose that to those exports<\/strong> would be devastating<\/strong>.\u201d Farley is aware that Mexico<\/strong> and Canada<\/strong> are currently allowing Chinese imports, while the Trump administration<\/strong> has slapped 100% tariffs<\/strong> on them. That effectively keeps them out, as a Chinese car that would normally cost for example, $25 000<\/strong>, would now cost $50 000<\/strong>, making it not worth the customers\u2019 while. The Ford CEO also said he hopes the cars are not brought through those two borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Farley\u2019s fears are not just about local manufacturing<\/strong>, but apparently about data collection<\/strong> and usage. He said Chinese cars are fitted with a lot of cameras<\/strong> that collect<\/strong> a lot of data. Presumably his implication<\/strong> is that the data would then be used<\/strong> nefariously<\/strong> by the Chinese automotive companies and\/ or Chinese government. Interestingly American cars from Tesla<\/strong> and Cadillac<\/strong> are also fitted with cameras, and are quite popular<\/strong> in China.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
