Mzansi\u2019s<\/strong> new vehicle market (Passenger and LCV<\/strong>) continues to show impressive resilience<\/strong> in 2026. In May 2026<\/strong>, the total industry recorded approximately 51 071 units<\/strong> sold, which is yet another solid performance that builds on the strong momentum<\/strong> seen throughout the year. In fact, this is the highest<\/strong> monthly total since May 2013<\/strong> and puts the projected total sales for 2026 in the 630 000<\/strong> vicinity. It compares well to the 45 287 units<\/strong> sold in May 2025, reflecting continued consumer confidence<\/strong> despite economic headwinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year-to-Date (YTD) sales for 2026 now sit at 260 909 units<\/strong>, with the market maintaining healthy double-digit<\/strong> growth overall. Toyota<\/strong> once again dominated the leader board with 10 667 units<\/strong>, while Chinese<\/strong> brands continue their aggressive climb up the rankings. Most notable in that group was Jetour<\/strong>, which swiftly moved right below parent Chery with a staggering 2 020 units<\/strong>, another record for the brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top 10 manufacturers tell a story of evolving<\/strong> preferences in Mzansi, with a healthy mix of established players and rising challengers<\/strong> fighting for every sale. Dealer channels<\/strong> remain the backbone<\/strong> of the market, showing buyers are still committing to new metal in meaningful numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
