Nissan<\/strong> is no longer a local manufacturer<\/strong> in Mzansi<\/strong>. That chapter closed<\/strong> when the Rosslyn<\/strong> manufacturing Plant changed hands from Nissan to Chery<\/strong>. The brand is now a full importer, and the all-new Tekton<\/strong> is one of the clearest<\/strong> signs of how it intends to fight its way back into the conversation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unveiled in India<\/strong> in July 2026<\/strong>, the Tekton is a proper C-segment SUV built on the Renault-Nissan Alliance CMF-B platform<\/strong> and produced at the Chennai<\/strong> Plant. It is already confirmed for Mzansi, with arrival expected later this year. In a market where Chinese brands are stacking volume<\/strong> and Japanese and Korean names are defending hard, this is a timely arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design-wise, Nissan has given the Tekton a stronger, more upright presence<\/strong> than many of its rivals. The front end takes clear inspiration from the big Patrol<\/strong>, with a bold grille<\/strong> and confident stance<\/strong> that says \u201cSUV\u201d without trying too hard. Dimensions put it right in the heart of the popular compact-crossover territory: roughly 4.35 metres long<\/strong>, with 212mm <\/strong>of ground clearance and a claimed 700-litre boot. That last figure matters in Mzansi. Families still want space for weekend gear, school bags and the occasional long trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Power comes exclusively from turbo petrol engines. The entry T160 is a 1.0-litre<\/strong> three-cylinder making 74kW<\/strong> and 166Nm<\/strong>, paired with a 6-speed manual<\/strong>. Higher up sits the 1.3-litre<\/strong> T280 4-cylinder motor, delivering 120kW<\/strong> and a promising 280Nm<\/strong>. That one can be had with either a manual<\/strong> or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic<\/strong>. Both engines drive the front wheels. Efficiency claims from India sit in the mid-5 L\/100km<\/strong> range under test conditions, and of course, real-world numbers will tell the true story once local testing<\/strong> is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the cabin aims higher than the price point might suggest. Dual digital displays, Google built-in connectivity<\/strong>, a panoramic sunroof<\/strong> on higher grades, ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate<\/strong> control form the feature list. Safety is also taken seriously: 6 airbags<\/strong> as standard and a suite of driver-assistance systems including adaptive cruise<\/strong>, autonomous emergency braking and Lane-Keep functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Nissan South Africa the Tekton<\/strong> will be arriving at a pivotal<\/strong> moment. After decades of local production, the brand now operates purely as an importer<\/strong>. Current monthly volumes sit in the mid-to-high hundreds, typically between 600<\/strong> and 800<\/strong> units in recent months, across a relatively tight range that includes the Magnite, the refreshed X-Trail, the Navara<\/strong> (now sourced from Thailand<\/strong>). The Tekton will slot between the Magnite and X-Trail, giving the dealer network a more competitive<\/strong> midsize offering without stretching too far upmarket.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
