Tata Motors<\/strong> has returned to Mzansi<\/strong> and they will be launching<\/strong> four new cars<\/strong> into our market. The Indian conglomerate that also owns the JLR<\/strong> business says it has a comprehensive<\/strong> plan to capture a respectable<\/strong> share of the market, starting with attractive prices<\/strong> for its cars. One of the four now available from the nationwide<\/strong> dealerships is the Tiago<\/strong> entry-level hatch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know the Tiago<\/strong> name sounds familiar<\/strong>, and that is because of the Volkswagen Taigo. But of course, completely different cars. Tiago comes with a hatch shape, sits four or five people<\/strong> and is priced from R184 900<\/strong> for the XM trim with a 5-speed manual<\/strong> transmission. Not the cheapest car in the country, but certainly one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paired with that gearbox is a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol<\/strong> engine, good for 63kW<\/strong> and 113Nm<\/strong> of torque. An Automated Manual Transmission<\/strong> is also available. I do hope this option is smoother<\/strong> than other AMT transmissions I have driven before, which were quite jerky<\/strong> on the move. Tata reckons fuel average<\/strong> consumption would be around 5 litres per 100km<\/strong> for this baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
