Chevrolet South Africa<\/strong> has not had an entry or lower-level performance car, keeping performance<\/strong> up in the skies where only people who can afford Ute<\/strong> and Lumina SSVs<\/strong>. That\u2019s about to change as we prepare for the arrival of the new Sonic RS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ok, it\u2019s not the most powerful pocket rocket<\/strong> on the block, displacing 1.4-litre<\/strong> and producing only 103kW<\/strong> and a healthy 200Nm<\/strong> of torque. Yet its relative lightness, at 1 257kg<\/strong>, means it can probably perform as well as the previous-generation Ford Fiesta ST<\/strong> (110kW). Go is helped along by a 6-speed manual <\/strong>gearbox driving the front wheels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chevrolet reckons it will be able to go flat out from 0 \u2013 100km\/h in about 8 seconds<\/strong> and consume an average of 5.9 litres per 100km<\/strong> of unleaded petrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some visual differentiators include a special RS front grille<\/strong>, 17-inch<\/strong> sports wheels, different spoiler and exhaust tailpipe<\/strong>, exclusive RS interior with special RS stitching<\/strong>, RS foot pedals and a near-flat bottomed steering sports wheel with satellite controls<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can expect the Chevrolet Sonic RS to hit Mzansi<\/strong> shores sometime in the first quarter of 2014<\/strong>, hopefully after making its public debut at the Johannesburg International Motor Show<\/strong> (JIMS) next month. We also hope it will come in at between R220 000<\/strong> to R230 000<\/strong> a pop.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
