Caterham Cars<\/strong> has made their dream come true by showing us the new AeroSeven Concept<\/strong> car. The British<\/strong> brand looks to be going after the same market as the likes of Ariel Atom<\/strong>, KTM X-Bow<\/strong> and Caparo T1<\/strong>. These are essentially track cars that can also be legally<\/strong> driven on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caterham promises it will have a production version of the AeroSeven on sale in\u00a02014<\/strong>, but no word on which markets it will be available in. What makes the car special then? First it\u2019s bucking the turbo trend by using a naturally aspirated\u00a02.0-litre Ford<\/strong>\u00a0engine for its\u00a0177kW<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a08500rpm<\/strong>. All power goes to the rear wheels of course, and the\u00a00 \u2013 100km\/h<\/strong>\u00a0run can be completed in \u201cunder 4 seconds<\/strong>\u201d.Second, the car uses a\u00a06-speed manual<\/strong>\u00a0transmission, again going against the current grain of\u00a0double-clutch<\/strong>\u00a0automatic transmissions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AeroSeven is the first Caterham to feature\u00a0traction control<\/strong>\u00a0for those of us who aren\u2019t as confident around bends and corners. This is another way of attracting new buyers to the segment.\u00a0Launch Control<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the fun parts and is probably the main reason for the \u201cunder 4 seconds\u201d bit.Third, the AeroSeven sits two people, which is quite different for this segment. What is probably missing however, is a windscreen so driving the thing will probably require some form of\u00a0headgear<\/strong>\u00a0like a\u00a0helmet<\/strong>\u00a0or something.Lastly and perhaps the coolest bits, are the\u00a0Formula One-inspired<\/strong>\u00a0steering wheel and the\u00a0Graphical Display Unit<\/strong>\u00a0(GDU). The GDU displays all sorts of useful info, such as\u00a0speed<\/strong>, current gear, fuel and using an advanced\u00a0real-time 3D<\/strong>\u00a0rendered display.
The AeroSeven will be produced straight out of England at the Caterham factory in\u00a0Dartford<\/strong>, about\u00a030km<\/strong>\u00a0outside of London.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
