The system \u2013 pictured in this patent <strong>sketch<\/strong> here \u2013 is meant to make it easier for <strong>drivers<\/strong> to control certain systems in the car without using their hands. But it appears the effect might be quite the <strong>opposite<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essentially what the control system does is that it <strong>senses<\/strong> and looks in the <strong>eyes<\/strong> of the driver. The driver then looks at the <strong>component<\/strong> they want to <strong>control<\/strong>, and simply by doing that, can control that component. For example, they look at the <strong>sound volume control<\/strong> and the volume goes up or down. Obviously then there are issues with this, one of which is how does the car know exactly what you want to control and if in fact, you want to control that part? Looking at the <strong>sunroof<\/strong> could get it opened, when all the driver wanted to do was <strong>stretch<\/strong> their eyes. Of course <strong>Artificial Intelligence<\/strong> will play a <strong>huge<\/strong> role in the system, but AI itself still has a lot of <strong>glitches<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volkswagen has patented a new system in its native Germany.
