BYD South Africa<\/strong> seems to have risen<\/strong> from its long slumber<\/strong>. The company is churning<\/strong> out new product after new product, and starting to back it up with a stronger marketing<\/strong> push than ever before. Mind you, BYD is the best-selling<\/strong> car brand in China<\/strong>. By far. This time around they\u2019ve announced that their new Sea Lion 5<\/strong> will be available to Mzansi<\/strong> buyers before this year is over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sea Lion 5 is a plug-in Hybrid<\/strong> SUV that measures 4.7 metres<\/strong> in length, 1.7m in height and has a wheelbase of 2.7m<\/strong>. It comes with a 1.5 litre generator<\/strong> that works with the battery system and motor to generate some 145kW<\/strong> and 300Nm<\/strong> of torque for the front wheels. Importantly, BYD says it will achieve a total range of 1 000km<\/strong>, with EV-only range pegged at 71km<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
