BMW South Africa<\/strong> began producing the new-generation X3<\/strong> in late 2024, and launched<\/strong> it to the media earlier in 2025. The car has been a hit<\/strong> with both buyers and Motoring media<\/strong> commentators, to such an extent that it eventually won the coveted 2025 South African Car of the Year<\/strong> competition sponsored by Old Mutual Insure<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When launched to media, the X3 was only available with a 20d<\/strong>, 30e (plug-in Hybrid) and M50<\/strong> models. Now BMW is offering potential buyers an entry-level petrol<\/strong> model called the X3 20 Pure Design<\/strong>. It comes standard with items like 19-inch wheels<\/strong>, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof<\/strong>, comfort access for the electrically-adjustable seats, and something called Veganza synthetic leather<\/strong>. A Harman\/ Kardon<\/strong> sound system works with the touch screen infotainment system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As far as the petrol engine is concerned, it measure 2.0-litres<\/strong>, has 48V mild Hybrid<\/strong> technology and a turbo charger. Maximum power is 148kW<\/strong> and torque is 335Nm<\/strong> between 1 500rpm and 4 000rpm. BMW claims the X3 20 Pure Design will return an average of 7.5 litres <\/strong>of petrol per 100km, and achieve a top speed of 218km\/h<\/strong>. No other performance figures<\/strong> have been provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
