Why recently when launching the <strong>Legend 55<\/strong> model in the Eastern Cape, the local outfit all but <strong>confirmed<\/strong> this. Set to be offered in <strong>single<\/strong>, Xtra and <strong>double cab<\/strong> versions, the formula remains largely the same. \u201cIf it ain\u2019t broken\u2026\u201d, they say. The front end with those slanted <strong>LED headlights<\/strong> and daytime running lights, reminds one of the new <strong>Corolla Cross<\/strong> front end, especially that grille with lots of <strong>trapezoidal shapes<\/strong>. Simultaneously there are bits that reminds one of current Hilux. The new car still rides on the old <strong>IMV<\/strong>, ladder frame platform. But is now heavily modified and can handle so much extra. Same as the current model that is built in <strong>Prospecton<\/strong>, Durban. The <strong>multifunction steering<\/strong> wheel looks chunky and thankfully comes with <strong>actual buttons<\/strong>. Buttons also appear on the centre console and the dashboard for various reasons, including the electronic <strong>4&#215;4 adjustments<\/strong> for the 4&#215;4 models. The first is based on the existing <strong>2.8-litre turbo diesel<\/strong> motor that makes <strong>150kW<\/strong> and <strong>500Nm<\/strong>. We may see the smaller <strong>2.4-litre<\/strong> join the fray as well. Then there is a <strong>mild Hybrid<\/strong>, similar to, but more advanced than the one found in the current 48V models. Lastly and most interestingly is the <strong>fully-electric Hilux<\/strong> with an <strong>electric powertrain<\/strong> that makes <strong>144kW<\/strong>. Toyota claims a range of between <strong>240km<\/strong> and <strong>300km<\/strong> for it.
