<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ford<\/strong> has removed<\/strong> a number of cars from the Mzansi<\/strong> market, most of which are not to be replaced<\/strong>. This has left the company with a far leaner product<\/strong> offering than it has had for decades<\/strong>. What is interesting is that Ford is increasing its offering in the mid and higher segments<\/strong>, while reducing the lower ones. A good case in point is the Tourneo Custom Sport<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manufactured out of Ford\u2019s Otosan’s Yenik\u00f6y Assembly Plant<\/strong> in Kocaeli in the country of Turkey<\/strong>, the new Custom Sport is a notable upgrade<\/strong> of the car that preceded<\/strong> it. We have the Sport model, which has been fitted<\/strong> and kitted with items not normally found in other models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For starters, what probably catches the eye are the two thick black and blue \u201cracing stripes\u201d<\/strong> from the lower front lip<\/strong> onto the bonnet, breaking for the roof and appearing again at the rear end. Similar dual-colour decals<\/strong> take to the side profile from the front bumper to the rear sliding doors<\/strong>. The honeycomb front grille is accentuated by the LED headlights<\/strong> with their LED daytime running lights<\/strong>. Ford kitted the vehicle with the optional 19-inch<\/strong>, two-tone alloy wheels and lend themselves to its sporty demeanour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We expected the tailgate<\/strong> \u2013 anchored by LED taillights<\/strong> \u2013 to be electrically operational<\/strong>. It\u2019s not. But there is a useful leather lever one can easily pull to close it. One of the sweet tricks<\/strong> offered by the Tourneo Sport are the two sliding doors<\/strong> that are operated via electric systems<\/strong>. First through the key fob <\/strong>where you simply press twice to open or close either sliding door on each side. Secondly they can be operated semi-manually by pulling the handles<\/strong> and letting the doors slide automatically for the rest of the way. They close in a similar fashion. Thirdly there is a button<\/strong> inside<\/strong> just on the B-pillar. Press it to open or close.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have the Ford Custom Tourneo Sport on test<\/strong> for the rest of December 2025<\/strong>, and will be updating<\/strong> you on how everything is going with the car. On paper it is quite the perfect specimen<\/strong> for my purposes; long distance<\/strong> driving, spacious and comfortable<\/strong> interior, as well as frugality<\/strong>.
