BMW<\/strong> is forging<\/strong> ahead with a fully-electric M3<\/strong>. These official spy pictures<\/strong> show the prototype<\/strong> testing in ice<\/strong> and snow<\/strong>. As far as we know, BMW will be producing and offering two powertrains<\/strong> for the market in terms of the M3: Hybrid<\/strong> petrol as well as full electricity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the latest 800V technology<\/strong> available to them, BMW is putting that into the M3. It is the same tech found in the new iX3<\/strong> that has an 800km range<\/strong>. Of course we don\u2019t expect that long a range for the hi-performance<\/strong> M3, but if it is between 500km<\/strong> and 600k<\/strong> it would be a huge<\/strong> win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M3 is mainly about performance, and some of that comes from using lightweight materials<\/strong>. EV batteries are quite heavy, but van Meel reckons it will be light and nimble, with no less than four motors<\/strong> attached to each wheel<\/strong>. This assists not only with excellent balance<\/strong>, but also instant power<\/strong> delivery to the right wheel at all times. Simultaneously, the two front motors can be totally deactivated<\/strong> so only the rear axle has power, creating a rear-wheel drive<\/strong> (RWD) system that is typically BMW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We expect the M3 to launch<\/strong> in the coming year. Hopefully something will be shown at the 2026 BMW M Festival<\/strong> which will happen in the middle of the year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
