Volkswagen<\/strong> is giving its first electric SUV \u2013 the ID.4<\/strong> \u2013 some serious reworking<\/strong>. These spy pictures<\/strong> show the car during European winter<\/strong> testing sessions. The ID.4 is rumoured<\/strong> to be changing its name as well, to ID. Tiguan<\/strong>, to align with the company\u2019s better-known SUV<\/strong> brand. Essentially this will be the electric version<\/strong> of the Tiguan. This is in line with new EV naming strategies the brand is following, such as the ID. Polo<\/strong> for the upcoming small EV hatch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the camouflage<\/strong>, we can see where some of the changes have been made, including a new front end and rear end<\/strong>. Volkswagen\u2019s new grille and headlight design<\/strong> is apparent, and so is the rear light cluster, reminiscent<\/strong> of cars like the T-Cross<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because the updated<\/strong> car is still based on the old model, we don\u2019t know if it will feature an improved powertrain<\/strong> or not. Volkswagen would do well to up the car\u2019s range to around 600km<\/strong> too, in order to compete effectively<\/strong> with new market entrants. Where things are definitely going to change is the interior, which will do away with much of the disliked buttonless dashboard<\/strong> and steering wheel.
