In case you didn’t already know, Omoda is a Chinese brand owned by the Chery Group. In Mzansi the Omoda brand is operated largely independently, alongside another Chery brand Jaecoo. Currently Omoda sells C5 and C9 models of different powertrains and trim levels. But then yesterday the brand introduced the new Omoda 4 in China.

In some markets around the world the C5 and C9 are simply called 5 and 9. Same as the 4. Therefore it would not surprise us if the 4 came to Mzansi as the C4. At the moment, Omoda South Africa has not confirmed the futuristic-looking specimen for this country. However, we there is no option but to offer it here, as a two-product company would not seem to be sustainable.
Richard Koo, OMODA Design Director, said: “OMODA 4 adopts the ‘Cyber Mecha’ design philosophy, presenting a futuristic mecha-inspired exterior. During the journey through the O-Universe, mysterious quantum fluctuations are activated, transforming into the unique ‘O-Universe lighting’, the most recognisable visual signature of OMODA 4 and a symbol bridging virtual and real worlds.”
There are no powertrain details available yet, but we expect at least the 1.5-litre turbocharged company motor to make an appearance, as well as a Hybrid model.
