In 2021 the legendary Mitsubishi Pajero bowed out of the production line40 years since it began production. Pajero had become synonymous with ruggedness, 4×4 capability, and a winning mentality, having won the Dakar Rally a record 12 times between 1984 and 2007. Here in Mzansi it was one of the first accepted modern SUVs in the middle-class shelves, where buyers who could not afford the German trio’s offerings would gravitate towards something like a Pajero. They were indeed very popular.

In fact, some current owners report a heavy reluctance to sell their babies even today. As such, prices can be at a premium for a clean example. About two years ago Mitsubishi South Africa announced that the all-new Pajero was in development and would soon be on the roads again. And so it looks like this is really happening, judging by this teaser picture released by Mitsubishi.

No details have been shared, but we know the car will remain an SUV (probably with 7 seats), with a highly capable 4×4 off-road system, new tech, some of which is shared with the likes of Triton, Outlander and Destinator. Powertrains also remain a mystery. However, diesel has always been a Pajero stable, and hopefully that stays the same even during these modern Hybrid times. Yes, the all-new Pajero will definitely be sold here in Mzansi, either from late 2026 or into 2027.
