BMW has confirmed that it will launch a new M3 in both petrol (probably Hybrid), as well as fully-electric versions. Such a move is clearly for the benefit of both regions where electric cars have taken off, and where they have not yet. Quite an investment for BMW, as developing two powertrains is more expensive than one.

So take a look at these spy pictures, showing the M3 in EV mode. It will benefit from BMW’s next design language called “Neue Klasse”, which sees some differences in how the cars look from today’s models, including the front and rear ends, and the whole interior. This M3 will be heavier and quieter than its petrol sibling. However, we don’t know if it will be as powerful or more in order to compensate for the weight gain. In terms of acceleration though, we expect this electric model to outpace its sibling, at least for the initial few hundred metres.
