BMW COOKING A FASTER 4X4 M2

BMW will be revealing (and launching in some markets) several new cars this year, including the likes of iX3, all-new 3 Series and i3. Among these will also be a new version of the baby sports car named M2. The M2 CS is BMW’s “entry-level” hi-performance car, with a 353kW, 550Nm powertrain, led by a turbocharged 3.0-litre engine. All of that goes to the rear wheels, which is a delight for those who know exactly what they are doing, but a scary prospect if you are not that skilled.

Enter the upcoming M2 with xDrive AWD. With that model, BMW will be running toe to toe with the Audi RS 3, which uses quattro AWD for better acceleration and more confident cornering. BMW claims a 0 – 100km/h time of 4.2 seconds for the M2 CS. Well the xDrive version will certainly dip lower than this, thanks to the quicker response of that system when launching the car. We also believe it will use the company’s tried and trusted 8-speed automatic transmission to plant all that power onto the tarmac. Yes xDrive AWD will add some weight overall, but that should be off-set by its catlike reflexes on take-off.
