Audi is in that renewal phase at the moment. Just a few weeks ago the German company released the all-new Q3 in Mzansi. Later they announced the new Q7. And now internationally the all-new Q9 flagship has been shown, with plans to bring it to Mzansi in 2027 sometime. With a long body, spacious cabin and the latest Audi gadgets, the Q9 seems well-equipped to take on its peers, the likes of BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

At 5.3 metres long, the Q9 is designed for presence and space. But first, what probably attracts the most attention is that massive front grille that basically covers about 80% of entire front end, top to bottom, left to right. LED front headlights break the size a bit, and give it some breathing space, although they are quite tiny in comparison.

The side profile is all about presence, pulling some serious shoulders on the front and rear fenders. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 23 inches in size, quite suitable for the flagship SUV. At the back we see the OLED lighting, similar to the Q3.

Passengers are treated to spaciousness, with up to 7 seats available to them. All of these are electrically adjustable, adding some premium and comfort feeling to the car.

Audi has installed a 36.8cm touch screen for the MMI infotainment system, as well as a 31.2cm Virtual Cockpit display. Plenty of features are attached to the system, including the usual navigation, radio, Bluetooth, wireless phone connectivity and others. Some will be interested in the ChatGPT integration as well.

Under the bonnet lies two different engines at launch. The first is a 3.0-litre turbo diesel making 180kW and 500Nm, or 220kW and 630Nm of torque. Of course it is attached to quattro all-wheel-drive (AWD). The flagship SQ9 – to be offered in selected markets around the world – carries a 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 worth some 441kW and 800Nm of torque. Audi says 4 seconds is all it take for the SQ9 to reach 100km/h from standstill.
