NISSAN ALMOST READY TO SHOW NEW SHAPE NAVARA

Nissan is almost ready to reveal the new-generation Navara to the world, 11 years after the current-generation began production in 2014. Based on the new Mitsubishi Triton (Nissan and Mitsubishi are still in an alliance with Renault), the 2026 Navara will share a lot of componentry with its Japanese compatriot. What we don’t yet know is whether the new car will also be assembled at the company’s Rosslyn Plant in Tshwane.

What we do know is that it will take the body structure provided by the Triton, as well as the powertrain. However, Nissan executives overseas have been cited as saying their car will not look like its Mitsubishi sibling, instead will take Nissan design cues at every opportunity. Whenever two manufacturers share product DNA, certain strands are telling. And so we still expect to recognise some Triton bits and pieces in the new Navara once it is unveiled.

For now all we have are these teaser pictures shot in the wild. There are clear family resemblance stamps in different places, especially the front and rear end. These are good news for Navara by the way, as the Triton is one of the bakkies we rate very highly in the Mzansi market.
