MERCEDES-AMG CLE 63 SPIED WITH V8 ENGINE

With Mercedes-Benz having dropped its raucous V8 engine from the C-Class range of AMGs a few years ago, fans had been left with a bitter taste in the mouth, despite the replacement’s much more powerful disposition. Sound makes a difference, if not in performance then in aural character. Perhaps that is all AMG fans were asking for. And if so, Mercedes-Benz has responded in the positive. See these spy pictures here? This is the upcoming CLE 63, fitted with a V8 engine.

So it’s back then? Yes. It’s back, with a bang. The CLE range if you recall, has replaced the C-Class and E-Class coupes, essentially folding the pair into one. Top of the range in that aspect is said CLE 63, expected to produce over 500kW of thumping V8 thrust. We believe AWD is to be employed as a catalyst for enthusiastic acceleration, and better grip. The front grille mimics that of the GT coupe, while elegant lines flow from font to rear.

Pundits are probably already licking their lips, scratching their itchy right feet over those four exhaust tailpipes. Those sure look real from here. Hopefully they produce the expected sounds. Snaps, crackles and pops would be the bare minimum required to satisfy AMG fans, wipe the tears off their faces and restore order in the performance world.
