For the third month in a row, Mzansi’s automotive manufacturers exceeded the 50 000 unit sales in a month. Last month – October 2025 – the industry sold 55 956 new vehicles, including Passenger, Light Commercial, Medium Heavy, and Heavy vehicles. This was the highest number since March 2015.
Good news these, because it means the overall economy is growing, since automotive sales are an economic indicator. Passenger Cars led the growth, with 39 610 units sold. That segment was followed by the Light Commercial Vehicle segment with 13 361 units, up 23.9%. Simultaneously, the dealerships were the big winners in terms of distribution, with 79.1% of all new vehicles being sold via them, while rentals contributed 16.6%.
